I LOVE Julie's books and have read (almost) every single one. I hadn't read this one yet, so I bought it expecting her usual wonderful stories. I hated the main character Bradford. Which is problematic, as he is supposed to be the hero. So sad. Maybe this was one of her first books, cause it didn't have to same flow and character development. I still love Julie Garwood's books, but this was hard to finish.Tags : Rebellious Desire [Julie Garwood] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. #1 New York Times</i> bestseller Julie Garwood “attracts readers like beautiful heroines attract dashing heroes” ( USA TODAY</i>)! I thought this story started out really well and I liked Bradford and Caroline together. As the story went on Bradford proved to be exceedingly stubborn and unbending regarding his views about women to the point where I was getting really frustrated with him. And though I'm glad he finally saw the light, I still don't really understand his sudden change of heart, other than that the story was drawing to a close and things needed to be wrapped up. Caroline was wonderful and I felt a little sorry for her that she had to put up with Bradford's past baggage. The subplot about Caroline's cousin, Charity, was awesome, and I wish we could have seen more of Caimen. If a sequel had been written for this book, I would have been interested in reading a story about Caimen, Bradford's friend Milford, or perhaps even Benjamin. There were so many wonderful characters in this story.
The story was well written and the storyline well defined. The author drew the reader in and kept our interest throughout the story as well as allowing us to experience her characters many emotions. The story had intrigue, suspense, discoveries, danger, betrayal, love, and a happily ever after.
The heroine, Caroline, is one of my favorite Garwood heroines. She is clever, bold, and witty. The first meeting of the two main characters is hilarious. I thoroughly enjoyed this book the first time I read it and every other time I read it.
Rebellious Desire is a classic Julie Garwood, where you get what only Garwood can give. It tells the love story of Caroline and Bradford. I loved their love at first sight, their stubbornness and the resilience of the heroine Caroline. It was really refreshing to see a female character who is as strong willed and smart as the hero. All along the reader gets action, humor, love and passion with the right proportions. I know that the latest Garwood works are not as good as the older ones, but come on, as someone who was raised on and addicted to reading because of this amazingly talented writer I can't but take off my hat for her. Rebellious Desire is a wonderful story which I read before but haven't reviewed, and now I am reading it again, which I never do with other books or authors. It is never a disappointment, but you know what the problem is, to find something good enough to read after this one ( maybe another Garwood oldie).
This is an entertaining story with a strong and accomplished heroine. The bit of mystery is pretty easy to figure out, but it adds spice to the story. My favorite Garwood novels are those set in the Middle Ages. I most love the Highland stories and I own them in paperback and kindle editions. This book is also a favorite. I really love Garwood's earlier works like this. They are a lot of fun.
The theme of this story is that when a girl likes a boy, she would be tongue-tied most of the time, she would reluctantly but undoubtedly compromise her principles, she is “strong” only to others but to the boy she is submissive, she will allow herself to be physically manhandled and emotionally abused, and at the end of the day, everything is acceptable as long as he kisses really well. If you like that theme, this book is for you.
Rebellious Desire starts out well. Caroline is such a strong, confident woman. The opening chapters are amusing and though you know her meeting with the Duke and "Mr. Smith" will work out in her favor you still want to see it happen. Then she falls in love and becomes weak. Though her cousins taught her to defend herself, whenever she has to do so she doesn't and has to be rescued.
It is an enjoyable story even though you feel the heroine has let you down. It ends well so that's ok.
I LOVE Julie's books and have read (almost) every single one. I hadn't read this one yet, so I bought it expecting her usual wonderful stories. I hated the main character Bradford.
