I cannot express how much I love these books. Deadly Games was exactly what I have been waiting for and I felt no disappointment reading it at all, well except when it ended.I have been reading all my life and since I first picked up Encrypted by Lindsay I have been hooked. The Emperors Edge books are just so incredibly fun to read and I read them over and over again. I nabbed Deadly Games as soon as it was released and devoured it like an addict. I have already re-read my favorite parts and I am constantly going over her previous books whenever I am bored. Usually I only re-read a book after a long enough time that I have started to forget what happened. Not so with Buroker, I re-read the interactions between Amaranthe and her crew ALL the time.
I love that Sicarius is slowly working his way through his own struggles and the end of the book was so incredible that I just want to hug him for finally, finally doing something outside of being an amazing assassin. I loved that he made mistakes in this one, but didn't lash out at Amaranthe for it like in the first book and I love how Amaranthe is so great at not giving up on him. I thought it was great too how there was some inner struggle within their crew and that Amaranthe wasn't the one who fixed it.
All things aside I love Amaranthe the most because she truly is a regular girl. No special powers, no hidden past that causes her to be some messiah for the future. She's just an incredibly devoted, smart, sassy and ridiculously funny woman who bands a group of misfits together and dedicates her life to making her world a better place. She is selfless and brave and everything you could possibly want in a hero.
I think my only questions is why is Akstyr still with the group? If he doesn't get paid well and doesn't really seem to like anyone, even Amaranthe, then why is he still there? I am really interested to read Lindsay's take on his side of the story so I hope that's the next one she does.
I cannot wait for the next installment. Wonderfully written and it was wonderfully received. Keep it up Lindsay!

Deadly Games The Emperor Edge Book 3 eBook Lindsay Buroker Reviews
The assassin, Sicarius, is someone no one wants to know or even admit to knowing, yet we love him along with his antics and his slow growth into a normal human. Basilard cannot talk yet he can sign. He wants to kill the assassin for what he has done in the past. This makes a really interesting plot when they are captured by the same people. It is worth reading every word of how the team rescue them while they escape, almost. I will let your imagination and reading tell you the rest. It is worth every word, because the plot, the people, and their antics seem to pop out of the page, draw you in and make you forget to eat, or rest. A memorable book.
Every story in the sea must have some kind of sea monster, I guess... Aside from the far fetched sea monster, which was just kind of thrown in there like, "Why the heck not?" I liked this book better than the first two. It gets better with character development as you go through the series, each book devoted to the back story of a member of the Emperor's Edge. We still don't know much about the heroine's motivations but with everything coming at her at such a fast pace, you barely notice.
I'm not sure I understand her attraction to the second lead, and I expected a little more depth there, but this is not a romance novel so I shouldn't expect that here. It was both insufficient and also too early, especially if the Emperor is a contender. The heroine and Emperor have only spoken twice.
The plot was a little odd and evil, and I wondered how incompetent the Turgonian government was despite being the strongest country on the map that they would let these plotters across their borders and not know a thing about them. Yet perhaps Forge is the government so that would explain a lot.
Again, the author just kind of feeds the scenarios to us and we must take everything at face value; places, people, occurrences past/present/future are basically line fed. How everything is interconnected is really summed up in a sentence by the heroine, and after it was said, that was that. Simple, straight forward plot; corporate, morally deprived evil versus noble justice, loyal to the Emperor.
The way this A-team sort of just clicks and becomes physically fit enough to perform physical miracles is a little incredulous, but if you go with the flow you won't be disappointed by the fast pace and the witty repartee the heroine has with her people, her enemies, and often, with herself. She's a modern girl with a satirical wit stuck in a sci-fi/steampunk/fantasy adventure. No wonder every male within a 5 mile radius is charmed by her. That HAS to be a running gag.
